Learn to Skate & Skating Academy Camps
Skate into summer FUN with Great Park Ice's Summer Sunsation Camps! With 5 themed days of on ice classes, games and crafts, we are looking forward to two SUNSATIONAL weeks of FUN!
This camp is for skaters landing waltz jump, through Juvenile well balanced and/or Excel Senior level. Off ice classes will include Ballet, Bodyworks, Hip Hop, K-Pop, Yoga, Stretch for Skaters, and more! On ice classes will include Skating Skills, Power, Testing Prep, Jump, Pole Harness, Spin, IJS Spin, and more!
Beat the summer heat and have fun learning the basics of ice skating. With a combination of on- and off-ice activities, your camper will learn about both figure and hockey skates, basic equipment, how to get on the ice and move comfortably and safely, engage in exercises, art, games and more! Whether shooting a puck for the first time or trying their first spin, your camper will have an opportunity to experience a wide array of new things. By the end of the camp your camper will know the fundamentals of ice skating, have an opportunity to show off their new skills and get a special exhibition from an elite skater.
Learn to Skate Summer Camp is a three-day camp in June created for recreational skaters at the Snowplow and Basic Skills levels - that's a total of 12 hours of skating and FUN! This is also a great opportunity for those who would like to learn a little more and try some of the components of competitive skating training.
This camp is designed for Beginner thru Basic 6 (LTS USA levels) skaters who want to learn how to ice skate, discover new and exciting skills on and off the ice, and make new friends while having FUN! We will divide the groups by ability and enjoy 3 days of making memories for a lifetime!
High Performance Camps
The High Performance Master Class Series is a daily high-level intensive training session for competitive skaters to prepare for excellence at their summer competitions. This series will feature a 2-hour on-ice group class covering technique, exercises, and drills to improve the athlete’s skating skills, jumps, and spins.
Discussions will include IJS scoring and potential ways to maximize points through base values, quality, and execution.
Campers will get a chance to share the ice with coaches and athletes from the current U.S. National/International team. Learn various on and off-ice warmup routines for both practice and competition; see demonstrations and explanations of jumps and spins from nationally competitive skaters; get tips, tricks, training techniques and exercises to improve your skating and performance; engage in a Q&A with elite coaches and skaters; see what a senior level competition dress looks like up close and get a glimpse of how they're made...and much more!
The Rinks - Poway ICE has curated a series of high-performance training experiences to help your skating grow throughout the entire summer!
The "Academy" Figure Skating Camp is for skaters who have progressed through the ranks of Learn to Skate USA and are ready for an Ice Skating camp that takes a more rigorous approach to improve technique and conditioning. The Skater must be in "Academy" or have passed Basic 6 level to participate.
If your skater is 9 years of age or younger and not quite landing an axel yet, skates 5-6 days per week/2 or more hours per day and has already participated in USFS endorsed competitions, then this is the camp for you!
Team Raf coaches, along with Rafael's current senior aspiring champions, are offering this new progressive camp to further advance skating skills, while at times training alongside the higher level Team Raf camp which will be running concurrently during the Quest for the Best camp. We expect offering a camp of this magnitude for lower level skaters will increase knowledge at the most important level regarding the importance of strong skating skills in order to progress to the next level of Team Raf Academy Camps in the future.
Join renowned Olympic Coach Rafael Arutyunyan, Vera Arutyunyan, Nadia Kanaeva along with all Team Raf coaches and senior skaters for three days of intensive training. Our expectation is for you to further advance your skating skills while visiting our world class facility, thus improving your results during the upcoming competition season.
Your day will start with an Elite Edge class, followed by Jumps, Spins, with the conclusion of your ice time being a choreography segment. After a short break your training will continue off the ice to focus on Element Positions, Stretching, and Jumps off the ice.
Summer Coaches Clinic 2025
Please join in with your skaters to listen and learn during Team Raf Camp to gain insights to enhance your coaching styles. Coaches will be welcome to stand off to the side on the ice, or in the boxes during all aspects of the camp. Skates must be on if you are on the ice. You will also be able to have an on ice Q&A with Rafael regarding technique for a deeper understanding of all that will be presented daily.
